Dolomythos

Dolomythos Project (2017)
Commissioned to Progetto Arte Poli, it's a 30-metre-long marble work consisting of 13 1.07-metre-high panels, placed to decorate the stalls of the outdoor market next to the building that houses San Candido's Science Museum. This structure contains all the geological findings of Michael Wachtler, the scientist and researcher who commissioned its construction. The findings, collected over many years in the Dolomites, reconstruct the various zoological eras of planet Earth.

The drawings, sketches and all the details of the flora and fauna of the various epochs were illustrated by Michael Wachtler himself and are therefore of considerable scientific importance.
On the artistic front, Barbara Ferro, using a wide range of polychrome marbles of various thicknesses and textures, reproduced the settings suggested by the scientist in as much detail as possible.

The particular three-dimensional workmanship typical of the artist, the richness of the colours and shades of the materials, the verisimilitude of the flora and fauna reproduced make this monumental work an emotional fresco of what is on display and explored in the Museum.
